Room 302, Thursday Afternoon

The nice thing about having a room to yourself was that you could do whatever the hell you wanted. Today Alana had a little bit too much restless energy to sit and read, so she played with her music app until it started blaring something that made her want to pogo madly and bounce off the furniture.

Back east your type don't crawl ...

She still wasn't a hundred percent sure what a Cambodia was, but whatever. Anything that made her shout along joyfully worked just fine. She hadn't bothered closing her door, but that worked just fine, too.

"I like stompy fun," Mara declared, stomping along happily. "Hopefully no one's in room 202..."

Or if they were, they could come up and dance too.

"They should just feel lucky I'm not doing this after bedtime," Alana decided. "Oh, hey, thanks for saying I looked hot on radio. That was nice."

"It was true," Mara said, smiling, "but you're welcome."

"I'm pretty sure it was like 90 percent that dress," Alana said, more talking than dancing now. "It was ridiculous but a lot of fun to try on for five minutes."

[giveherahand]

"It's a fun class," Mara agreed. "I'm not exactly sure why I'm in it, but it's a fun class."

[not_a_moonie]

"I'm in it because it is a fun class," Alana said. "And because it's senior year, so I figure I deserve even more blow-off classes than normal. Besides, you never know when a good lie's going to come in handy."

[giveherahand]

"Like when someone's parents show up," Mara said, nodding.

[not_a_moonie]

"Or when you're someplace you aren't supposed to be," Alana nodded, widening her eyes for effect. "'Sorry, I was just looking for the bathroom' has gotten me out of trouble more than once."

"Especially if you can convince them you're a bubblehead," Mara said, chewing her lower lip and looking Very, Very Dim.

"We're teenage girls," Alana said. "I feel like bubblehead is kind of the assumption."

She tried to copy Mara's facial expression, not quite as successfully. "Wait, what are you doing with your eyes?"

"You open them very wide and then try to do a complicated math problem in your head," Mara advised. "You'll look a little confused. Works all the time."

Which Alana immediately did, of course, going over to the mirror to check her progress. She burst out laughing once she had.

"Oh god, I look like I could be on a reality TV dating show."

[giveherahand]

"Right?" Mara said, laughing. "I really, really hope they're doing complicated math. It gives me more faith in humanity."

"i think I'm going to believe that from now on," Alana nodded. "They're trying to divide their paychecks for being on the show into dollars per minute. They only look dumb."

"Now if we could understand the appeal of watching the speeder wreck as it happens, we could be making at least twice of what they do," Mara said.

"I would totally be the girl who loses her patience and starts telling everybody they're idiots three days in," Alana said, shaking her head. "You, though. I bet you could pull it off."

[giveherahand]

"Oh really?" Mara said, laughing. "Why?"

[not_a_moonie]

"You're a redhead," Alana answered. "Lots of guys have a thing about that. Plus, you're an awesome dancer, so I'm sue you'd make that work for you somehow."
