Room 302, Monday Morning

It was an excellent day for a lazy morning in bed. Alana lounged on top of her blanket, novel in one hand and bowl of dry cereal at her fingertips.

She was sure at some point she should do something productive -- she'd been having a lot of lazy days lately. But right then, finding out whether the heroine in the book she was reading was going to marry her true love or fulfill her destiny as a dragon-hunter was a much more appealing task than running errands or catching up with her laundry.

Dante gave an idle shrug of one shoulder. "Bingo's boring," he said, "But this is a 'say hi to Alana' visit." He patted her stomach lightly. "Could go any way you like."

"I like when it's a messing around visit," Alana said, after a moment in which she decided coy wasn't her style. She stroked a piece of hair off his face. "Just, y'know, don't want you to start assuming things. Besides, saying hi is good, too."

"I'm easy," Dante said. ... Well, in this particular thing, he was. Other things were heavily debatable, but he didn't have any plans for letting Alana get anywhere remotely near them. "Anything's good as long as it's fun." He shot her a thoughtful look. "But you're fun in general, so hey, if you want to talk about that book some more, I'm all ears."

He wasn't anything besides entirely genuine on that score.

"It's not that great a book," Alana admitted. "I kept reading it because the dragon parts are cool, but there's not that much more to say about it. I like books that have some kind of point, and it doesn't."

"Besides 'you can't combine love and killing shit'?" Dante offered.

Though he wasn't sure he really disagreed with the book on that score.

"Pretty much," Alana said, and started playing with his hair again. "Though that's a pretty good message, when you put it like that."

She liked touching, didn't she?

Not that Dante was going to argue about it; wasn't like it was a hair-trigger issue for him. He just looked faintly amused.

"Now if only the writer could've gotten it down," he said. "Guess I'm just smarter than that."

She liked touching him, anyhow. She didn't exactly paw random people on the street.

"That must be it," she agreed, equally amused, and then teased, "So when's your book coming out?"

"Oh, next week," Dante said. "You'll like it. Tons of dead dragons, people getting laid, random things exploding... the good stuff."

"I bet the bookstore couldn't keep it in stock," Alana told him, biting back a smile. "Sounds great. Anybody in it inspired by me?"

"There's this one hot chick with wings," Dante said, leaning back against the pillows a little now that he didn't feel like he should be doing something with his hands. "Big sword. Nobody bugs her about who she's sleeping with, by the way."

"I like this story," Alana said approvingly. "Especially if she gets at least one of the hottest sex scenes."

"'Course she does," Dante said. "I mean, dragon slaying really winds you up, right?" He grinned at her. "Poor prince won't know what hit him, but he comes out smiling."

Alana smiled back, nuzzled into his neck. "Probably she's so worked up they don't even make it to bed," she suggested lazily. "Just takes off her armor, yanks off his clothes and goes at it."

"He's just trying to keep up," Dante said. "Next thing you know, she's on top of him. And y'know what, he doesn't really mind."

He shrugged. "All that responsibility crap goes out the window, y'know?"

"The dragons will still be there after they finish," Alana nodded. "And probably she'll do better killing them if she works off some tension first, anyhow. All work and no play makes Jane a dull girl and all of that."

Dante nodded sagely.

"And after that, well, fuck it," he said, "The guy was gonna offer you a boring life as a princess, except now he's not so good at being a boring prince anymore either."

Something something on the lam dragon hunters something. Dante wasn't actually a stellar wordsmith.

"So they run off together, kick ass, and maybe live on a pirate ship when there aren't any dragons to kill," Alana nodded. "Sounds like a fantastic plot. Too bad you spoiled the end for me."

"Hey, you asked."

Not that Dante would ever be able to sit still long enough to write a page, let alone a book - he'd leave that to people like Isabela.

"I'll even throw in a happily ever after in there," he added.
